CARTMEL

The village is now well known for Simon Rogan’s three star Michelin restaurant L’Enclume and its sister venue Rogan & Co, however, there are plenty of other establishments to enjoy fabulous food. The Cavendish  is our current favourite. All serve good pub food, and excellent beers and have lovely outdoor spaces.

Unsworth Yard is a great place.  You can choose cheese from the cheese shop, bread and pizza from the bakery, wine from David and beer from Peter in the brewery, then sit down at one of their tables in the private courtyard and enjoy your meal alfresco. Also, look out here for Oscars Wine Bar serving Cumbrian Tapas.  For those coffee connoisseurs, there are plenty of choices from Cartmel Coffee, Cartmel Square and The Mallard Tea Shop. Cartmel Village Shop is a wonderful deli and home to the famous Sticky Toffee Pudding.

FURTHER AFIELD

The South Lakes has a great range of excellent places to eat.  Our current favourite outside Cartmel is Yew Tree Barn for breakfast and lunch and Heft for fine dining – Low Newton.  The Masons Arms at Strawberry Bank never disappoints (Sarah loves the ribs) and The Punch Bowl at Crossthwaite. Bakehouse Born and Bread  in Greenodd has an exciting menu for breakfast and lunch and is also a bakery – Sarah would go every day if she was allowed
