FOOD & DRINK
The Lake District is a paradise for people looking for great food and fine dining.
The village is now well known for Simon Rogan’s two star Michelin restaurant L’Enclume and it’s sister venue Rogan & Co, however there are plenty other opportunities to enjoy fabulous food including The Cavendish (a favourite of ours for a cold winter night by the fire) where Richard will ply you with a wide selection of gins. Or The Kings where Andrew will make you feel welcome and serves up fabulous starters and great pub grub along with excellent beers.
Unsworth Yard is a great place. You can choose cheese from the cheese shop, bread from the bakery, wine from David and beer from Peter in the brewery, then sit down at one of their tables in the private courtyard and enjoy your meal alfresco. For those coffee connoisseurs, there is plenty of choice. Cartmel Coffee has won several awards, or you can sit upstairs with a lovely view in the Cartmel Village Shop and enjoy their famous Sticky Toffee Pudding. There are lots more places to eat and drink….. we are spoiled!
The South Lakes has a great range of excellent places to eat. Our current favourite outside Cartmel is the Punch Bowl at Crossthwaite. The Masons Arms at Strawberry Bank never disappoints (Sarah loves the ribs!!), equally the Hare and Hounds at Bowland Bridge has had rave reviews. Travel just a few miles and you have – The Sameling, The Drunken Duck, Forest Side, and The Gilpin Hotel & Lake House and all in the Michelin Guide – put the diet on hold.
