things to do
The Lake District is Britain’s activity playground – but you don’t always have to be the outdoors type to enjoy it!
There are many walks and interconnected bridleways starting right from our door. We have lots of maps and route ideas in the cottage. Head up the lane to join the Cumbria Coastal Way or the Cartmel Cycle Loop or stroll down to the village in just ten minutes.
The Priory has attracted visitors for over 600 years and is one of our favourite places to visit. For the more adventurous try Lakeland Segway with archery, electric bike hire and Geoventures on offer. Book the Black Friesian Experience for a romantic carriage ride.
Windermere and Coniston are a twenty minute car ride away. Make your way to The Old Man or even Scafell Pike! There are many houses and gardens to choose from, Blackwell Arts and Crafts House, Brantwood John Ruskins home, Hill Top, Beatrix Potter’s house, Muncaster Castle, Sizergh Castle, Holker Hall and Levens all have wonderful gardens.
A very popular day trip is the Steam train from Haverthwaite up to Windermere.
Stewart’s favourite is the Lakeland Motor Museum with Donald Campbell’s Bluebird.
